To provide commercial insurance expertise to facilitate technical underwriting training, develop underwriting standards, participate in rate setting activities and make recommendations for product changes and to provide technical assistance to field underwriters as needed. Also the employee is responsible for managing and coordinating the home office quality assurance program, including conducting reviews, reporting results, and recommending changes to the processes.
Assists in the development, documentation and publication of underwriting standards and guidelines in conjunction with the Underwriting Advisory Council.
Implements technical training programs within the underwriting area in order to keep employees abreast of changes, current trends, laws and economic conditions affecting underwriting and quality assurance.
Leads the home office underwriting audits process. Provides consistent, timely and fair review of underwriting files to ensure compliance with set guidelines. Provide written summary and communication of file review results to management and individual underwriters. Based on development needs identified through the QA review process, provide timely feedback and coaching, initiate training on an individual or office basis.
Works with Product Management and Actuary to review coverage forms, which includes the product design and pricing models from an underwriting perspective. Ensures product model complies with underwriting intent and that the product will produce a profit. Develop recommendations / modifications to coverage form and discusses with Assistant Vice President of Home Office Underwriting.
Monitors and reports on regional performance with regard to assumed exposures that exceed the authority of the regional offices as established by the corporation.
Researches and recommends underwriting actions related to new states or lines of coverage products.
Evaluates competitive data from an underwriting prospective across all lines and makes recommendations regarding the proper positioning of new and existing products to management.
Acts in a Project manager role or support role to the Assistant Vice President, Home Office Underwriting on special projects for the region or home office as needed. Function independently or as a team member as required by each assignment's needs. Responsible for short term and long range planning, tracking and implementation of special projects.
Maintains a superior knowledge of the all lines of commercial lines coverage forms and thoroughly understands how to classify and rate.
Keeps abreast of current trends, laws and economic conditions affecting underwriting. Maintains knowledge of insurance, underwriting and risk management principles at a high level of competency.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
