A leading US insurance business is seeking an Accounting Policy Director / Manager and IFRS specialist to join their business. The business is going through a global implementation of IFRS 17 to begin parallel reporting using a new accounting standard in 2020.

This role will be a huge undertaking requiring coordination between Finance, Actuarial, and IT to upgrade systems, processes, and controls. It also offers us the opportunity to gain new insights into our businesses and improve process efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the global IFRS 17 implementation team and assist with strategy and solution identification as it relates to the business
  • Collaborate with Finance, Actuarial and IT to review the current end to end financial reporting process and identify required changes to systems, processes and controls
  • Establish a pilot program to assess operational readiness and financial impacts for sample product lines
  • Design analytical tools for testing and analyzing IFRS 17 pilot program results
  • Support broader efforts to develop IFRS solutions using insights gained from the pilot program
  • Provide updates to senior management and the global implementation team
  • Support IFRS 17 education and training
  • Complete other special projects and analyses, as requested

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA required
  • Prior insurance industry or financial services experience required
  • Advanced knowledge of IFRS accounting standards is a plus
  • 10+ years of accounting/finance experience
  • Prior supervisory experience and project management experience preferred but not required
  • Understanding of reinsurance is a strong plus
  • Understanding of risks and controls
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be a team player, self-starter, well-organized, innovative, and possess a high level of initiative
  • Comfortable working with senior levels of management and able to cope in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
